Shark RV1001AE IQ
This self-emptying robotic vacuum cleaner does an excellent job on carpets with low piles and hard floors. The combo brush can reach into corners and edges and it automatically increases suction when it detects carpet. It also does a good job of cleaning embedded dirt on carpets in the middle of the pile. The IQ has a tiny footprint and also a self-emptying function. If you want to change the floor level or set zones that aren't allowed, you'll have to manually reset the map.
The IQ app provides advanced mapping and automated features, however it lacks no-go zones. These are only available on iRobot robots. The smart-pathing technology allows for greater maneuverability and the high-pile feature of its carpet cleaning mode is effective, although it can get stuck on rug tassels.
In our tests, we discovered that the IQ handled pet hair with ease. It was able to remove the majority of hair on floors that were not bare, and a fair amount of rug with a medium pile. It was less efficient on shag carpets, where it struggled to get at dirt and dust that was embedded in the fibers. It did a good job of navigating chair legs, tight spaces, and the base of a wooden IKEA step stool. It was a little slower on bare flooring but it was able to recover speed and performed better than other robots we test.
The IQ is a better choice for the majority of users than the iRobot Roomba. It has a bigger dustbin, a longer battery life and is better at navigating obstacles. It has mopping tools that are able to clean up sticky messes. The iRobot however, feels more sturdy and has fewer parts that require maintenance or replacement, incurs less ongoing costs, and can even create virtual no go zones with its companion application. It is able to even resume a cleaning session from the point it started if it is unable to recharge its battery prior to having completed the task. The iRobot can also be controlled via voice commands, which is a big plus for many users.
Eufy 11S
The RoboVac 11S from Eufy isn't the most feature-rich robot vacuum available however it offers powerful cleaning capabilities at a low price. This vacuum was designed for consumers with a tight budget who don't require a complicated mapping system, or even an app, to control it. The robot is capable of running for more than an hour and includes the remote, a cleaning tool, AC power adapter, charging base, and additional filters.
The 11S is slim and elegant and has a tempered glass upper deck that resembles polished aluminum. It's a refreshing departure from the utilitarian and industrial designs of Roomba, Samsung and Neato.
The eufy11S performed well in our tests to remove larger particles and fine dust from hard floors. However, it struggled to provide medium and high pile carpets an effective deep clean. It is also prone to hit furniture and people in its path however, it is able to detect obstacles with sensors. When it encounters them, it stops and lets out a loud sound so you can manually steer it around the obstacle and then get it back to work.
Another fantastic feature of the eufy11S is its BoostIQ mode, which allows you to set the robot to automatically adjust the strength of its suction to match the type of floor and the level of dirt. The remote control makes it simple to direct the 11S to the desired location.
Single Room Mode is a great alternative if you have a small amount of furniture in the room you want to vacuum. The eufy can spend up to 30 minutes cleaning the space it is assigned.
You can also select Edge Cleaning which restricts the amount of time spent in each location to 20 minutes for maximum battery life. This option allows the eufy to move in a spiraling pattern by cleaning edges and corners.
Miele Complete C1
The Miele Complete C1 is an excellent mid-range canister robot vacuum that can be a great performer on carpet. Its performance on floors that are not bare is also exceptional. It can pick up rice and other fine debris easily. The suction power doesn't drop as the dirt bin fills. Its air-sealed, allergy-friendly design capture allergens, keeping your family healthy. It comes with an onboard HEPA and self-emptying bin, so you don't need additional filters or a vacuum bag.
It's not as effective as more expensive models, but it's great for deep cleaning and fighting the toughest stains. The two cameras on the front of the unit provide a live image feed on your smartphone, and it has one of the most effective obstacle avoidance systems we've seen.
