Shark RV1001AE IQ
This budget self-emptying robotic vacuum cleaner does a good job on low-pile carpet and hard floors. Its combinator brush gets to the edges and corners, and automatically increases suction as soon as it spots carpet. It also is effective in cleaning dirt embedded in mid-pile carpet. The IQ has a small footprint and also a self-emptying function. However, if you wish to change floor levels on the map or create no-go zones you'll have to manually reset it in order to do so, which is somewhat of a hassle.
The IQ's app has some advanced mapping and automation features but it's missing no-go zones that are available on iRobot models. The smart-pathing technology permits for better maneuverability, and the high-pile mode of its carpet cleaning mode is effective, although it can get caught in rug tassels.
In our tests, the IQ was capable of handling pet hair effectively, clearing huge amounts of debris from floors with no flooring and fair amounts on medium-pile carpet. It was less effective on shag carpets. It struggled to get at dirt and dust embedded within the fibers. It did a good job of maneuvering the legs of chairs and tight spaces, as well as the bottom of an wooden IKEA step stool. It was a bit slower on floors that were not paved but it quickly recovered and performed better than the other robots we tested.
The IQ is a better choice over the iRobot Roomba 694 for most applications. It has a bigger dustbin and a longer battery life and is better at navigating obstacles. The device has a tendency of bumping into furniture and people in its path. However, it is able detect obstacles using sensors. It stops and emits a loud ring when it encounters an obstacle. It is then possible to manually guide the device around it to get it to work again.
Another great feature of the eufy11S is its BoostIQ mode that lets you set the robot to automatically adjust its suction power to match the type of floor and the amount of dirt. It's also easy to use the remote to direct the 11S where you'd like it to go.
If you don't have many furniture in the area you're looking to vacuum, Single Room Mode is an excellent option. The eufy can spend 30 minutes intensely cleaning the space it's assigned to.
Edge Cleaning is another option that reduces the time spent on each area to just 20 minutes. This will maximize battery life. By selecting this option the eufy moves in a spiral fashion, tackling corners and edges for an efficient clean.
Miele Complete C1
The Miele Complete C1 is an excellent mid-range canister robotic vacuum that is a top performer on carpet. Its performance on carpets with no floor is also exceptional. It can pick up small particles such as rice effortlessly, and it doesn't lose suction power even when its dirt bin fills. Its allergy-friendly design and air-sealed body captures allergens to keep your family healthy. It has an onboard HEPA and self-emptying bin so you don't need additional filters or a vacuum bag.
It's not as powerful as pricier models, but it's still ideal for fighting stains and deep cleaning. It has two cameras on the front that deliver a live feed to your smartphone.
